Tree Limb Punched a Hole in This Roof! | Emergency Roof Repair in Charlotte, NC

What happens when a falling tree limb punches a hole straight through your roof?

Join Jay from Blue Fox Roofing & Renovations as he investigates storm-related roof damage at a Charlotte-area home.

With a sizable hole in the roof and the homeowner concerned about incoming weather, Jay arrives prepared to make a temporary repair using roofing materials he brought along.

After securing the damaged area, he inspects the remaining roof and identifies another concern: shingles installed on a section with a slope too low for traditional asphalt roofing.

In this video:

  • Assessing damage from a fallen tree limb

### Tree Limb Through the Roof — Emergency Roof Repair

**Jay, Blue Fox Roofing & Renovations:**

I'm getting ready to head up on this roof. The homeowner just showed me where a tree limb went right through it.

Naturally, he's concerned about the weather, and he should be. So I'm going up prepared. I've got my tool belt with the basics, along with some synthetic underlayment and shingles.

That's a good-sized hole! Let's get a picture and see what we're working with.

Three-tab shingles are actually pretty easy to replace because they have some flexibility. This is the one I'm trying to remove.

I'm putting a little support underneath this area. Again, this is strictly temporary — just something to provide a little extra support until a permanent repair can be made.

The way I've repaired this, it shouldn't leak. I'm mainly putting this tarp over the area so nobody accidentally steps on it.

That should take care of things for now.

Next, I'm going to look around the rest of the roof. Overall, it seems to be pretty much intact.

The tree also landed over there and caused some damage to a very low-slope section. That area really shouldn't have traditional shingles on it. It needs a roofing system specifically designed for low-slope applications.

And there you have it! A temporary repair. Maybe a little overkill, but I'd rather do it that way.
