Can You Identify Hail Damage From the Ground? Storm Inspection in Matthews, NC
Can a roofing contractor accurately identify hail damage without getting on your roof?
In this video, Jay from Blue Fox Roofing & Renovations conducts a storm damage inspection on an approximately 18-year-old asphalt shingle roof in Matthews, North Carolina.
The homeowner has received multiple visits from door-to-door roofing contractors claiming her roof had hail damage. With several neighboring homes already replacing their roofs, she wanted an independent assessment before deciding what to do next.
Our inspection confirmed that the roof had sustained storm damage.
However, the findings also illustrate why a close, hands-on roof inspection is important.
Jay climbs onto the steep roof and examines the shingles for evidence of hail impacts, marking areas of damage with chalk. He also identifies signs of normal aging and deterioration on a roof that's approaching 19 years old.
While the neighbor's outcomes predict possible storm damage from the ground, confirming hail impacts usually requires a closer examination of the roofing materials. A thorough storm inspection also considers damage patterns, other roofing components and historical hail and wind activity at the property.
The lesson isn't that the door-to-door roofers were necessarily wrong. It's that homeowners deserve an inspection that supports the conclusion.
At Blue Fox Roofing & Renovations, we believe in evaluating the actual condition of a roof before recommending repairs, replacement or further consideration of an insurance claim.
We provide roof inspections, storm damage assessments, roof repairs and roof replacements throughout Matthews, Charlotte and surrounding North Carolina communities.
